The movie and TV production industries are undergoing fundamental changes on a global basis, changes that impact many of the crafts, including visual effects.

The Visual Effects Society is committed to providing its members and the industry at large with important facts and frank discussion in an educational format.

On Saturday, December 1, 2012, Marty Shindler, a long time member of VES, and who has worked at many, many points on the entertainment technology value chain moderated a vitally important panel for the VES. It is entitled Understanding Unions: The Good, The Bad & Unknown Of Forming A Visual Effects Collective Bargaining Organization

The objective was to provide a balanced discussion on the issues that form the basis for informed decisions.

Panelists included:

  • Scott Dougherty – Executive Producer / Co-Owner, Furious FX, Inc.
  • Steven J Kaplan – Organizer for The Animation Guild, Local 839 IATSE
  • John Parentau – General Manager, Pixomondo L.A.
  • Ellen Shadur – Attorney at Baker Hostetler and,
  • Bill Taylor, ASC, VES

The event was well attended and a spirited discussion ensued.
