Keynote industry conversation, Steve Canepa with Marty Shindler

IBM is a leader in the media and entertainment market segment from many points of view, including its innovative products and services.

Steve Canepa, as the General Manager of the Global Media and Entertainment Industry for IBM, must carefully watch the trends inherent in many market segments to fully understand and react to their potential impact on his many businesses.

Similarly, given the long lead time in developing and deploying new technologies, IBM must predict the overall direction and challenges that industry segments may take and determine the best means to maintain and enhance its leadership position.

In this one to one keynote conversation, Steve Canepa and Marty Shindler, long time consultant to media and entertainment companies, will discuss and dissect the many potential rewards and challenges on the road ahead.

Marty Shindler also moderated a panel discussion at the conference.
The panel was:

Trekking to the cloud – wired, wireless, cellular enabled and satellite – looking to the future

As file sizes continue to grow and the number of end users increases, moving content through the Internet enables this content to be available wherever and whenever it is needed. Cloud storage is promising but there remain challenges (as well as rewards) for getting content transported to where it is needed quickly and securely.

There are many opinions as to how the future of content transport will evolve. This includes opinions on hat will occur with extensive installation of fiber optic communication by telcos, cablecos and Google. There is also considerable discussion of how sales of spectrum will impact the growth of access as society becomes increasingly mobile. This panel will take a look at the future, envisioning what content transport will look like up to 15 years from now.

Panelists included:

Ben Bloom, Service Line Manager Akamai Technologies Media + Gaming

Nathan Carman, Chief Engineer Cloud Infrastructure Solutions, Exelis Information Systems

Don Gabriel, General Manager, Sales, EchoStar Satellite Services L.L.C.

Eric Markow, Fiber Communications Specialist, Bel Air Internet
